Hi there, welcome to my blog! My name is Lisa and this is where I write about my life here on the farm, in the woods. I'm a wife and a mom to 3 adult children. I run a chicken farm. I garden a lot and try to grow/can as much of our food as possible! My house is overrun with plants, and I like tougher projects like forcing bulbs and poinsettias to rebloom. I believe in natural healthcare and growing our own herbs for medicines.
We have 3 furred kids and about 80 feathered kids. (I post mostly about those feathered kids over on my other blog Murano Chicken Farm, so I won't bog you down too much with that stuff) I love to quad and hike and can spend all day in the woods and love every minute of it.
Gardening is kinda my thing. I grow 3 different types and 9 different colors of lily's. I have herbs growing indoors and out that many people have never even heard of. I'm pretty good at plant identification and wild crafting. I fight the deer yearly over my garden! I have herbs planted all around my yard and I harvest and preserve them all Summer long. I love to use them for teas, salves and other herbal remedies. I hate when Summer ends because that means less gardening. I grow just about anything I can in the house during the winter and I've become pretty good at keeping annuals alive for years!
My two favorite days of the year are the summer solstice and the winter solstice! The summer solstice because it has the longest daylight hours of the year. The winter solstice because it signifies that every day from here till mid June will have just few more minutes of daylight. I really prefer the light to the dark...more time to be outside!
I love to cook. Ok, I lied....I like to bake and make candy. Yummmm! (same thing, right?) I'm good at complex baking techniques, however I rely on easy 'throw it together' or 'only 4 ingredients' style recipes on most days. We live on the homestead where we sell chicks and I make a lot of my own medicines and natural healthcare products. I'm cheap as the day is long (much to my husbands chagrin who can blow money like nobody's business!) and I'm always looking for ways to do things cheaper, or simpler, or easier. Which is kind of odd considering that I love those complex baking techniques.
I like to do crafty and DIY stuff..although my craft skills aren't very advanced so I make mostly simple stuff. I love the farmhouse style thing and am getting pretty darn good at homesteading. I don't always can, dehydrate, butcher and mend...but I know how!
I have work issues, family conundrums, & decorating dilemmas. I'm quite diverse. I do so many different things and I can't wait to share them all with you.
